The Poetry of Ronnie Doe

The Writing Forum’s Writer of the Month - June 2011

AUTHOR’S BIO:

Hello felllow poets. My name is Ronnie Doe and I am from Charlestown, Mass. which is a part of Boston and the second oldest town in America. I am the father of a 19 year old daughter and a 14 year old son. I am a Teamster and my job is to set up and break down the shows that take place at the Boston's Convention and Exhibition Center. I have been writing poetry for about thirty years and am just coming out of the closet with them. Although I have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines, most of my writing's stayed in my filing cabinet which was a cardboard box.

I am currently pursuing my dream to write a half bio/half poetry book about the spiritual warfare that came with growing up in my hometown. I am optimistic that it is going to be treasured by past and present Townies, but until it happens I can only pray for its success.

I Love You

Unlike a robin in the spring
I never made your sweet heart sing
Unlike a rose still drenched with dew
I never told you I love you

Unlike a soft and gentle stream
I never took you to a dream
Unlike a famous work of art
I never painted in my heart

Picture perfect mural of you
Mona Lisa so beautiful
Ala Michelangelo
I never said I love you so

Unlike the morning sun’s bright smile
I never made your life worthwhile
Unlike a flower in full bloom
I never smelt your sweet perfume

Unlike a gentleman for sure
I never opened up the door
Unlike a man that’s love crazy
I never said to my Lady

You’re the woman I love for sure
Will idolize forevermore
Like a latter day Romeo
Sweet Juliet, I love you so

Unlike a father and husband
I’ve never said how great it’s been
Unlike a man who loves his wife
I’ve never thanked you for this life

But like a man with a new start
Forever I will say non-stop
From the bottom of my broken heart
Up until the tippity-top

I Love You!!!!

Riding On the Train

Riding on the train
Fresh from the work place
Feeling half insane
Part of the rat race

After sitting in
An old dirty seat
Relaxing I take
A load off my feet

As I look around
Much to my surprise
All the heads are down
I meet no one’s eyes

I see commuters
Touching their I-Phone
Laptop computers
They’re in their own zone

Along with ear buds
Coming from I-pods
I can hear some studs
Talking to their broads

Being old-fashion
I can sadly see
There’s no compassion
In society

There is not a man
Who would be so sweet
To ask a woman
If she wants his seat

There is no hello
Or how do you do?
How did your day go?
There’s no fat to chew

As my mind wanders
Back to yesteryear
Question I ponder
Does anyone care?

So impersonal
Are people today
Unsupportable
They’ve nothing to say

Hard day of labor
I want to unwind
Talk to a neighbor
Be friendly and kind

But it’s not allowed
So I must refrain
Alone in a crowd
I’m riding the train

Take the L Out of Gold

You’ve amassed a fortune
You count it every day
You don’t share a portion
Or give a cent away

You sit in your mansion
You yell at your poor maid
Your soul you have ransomed
With the greed you’ve displayed

You wake in the morning
You don’t get on your knees
You ignore the warning
To put your soul at ease

You think you're living well
You’re obnoxious and bold
You will not take the L
Out of your precious gold

You’ve got so much money
Not a care in the world
But you’ve got no honey
You’re too good for a girl

You’re only concerned with
The New York Stock Exchange
You believe in the myth
Dreams are bought or arranged

You are only content
When you go to the bank
As you worship each cent
The good Lord you don’t thank

You’re thinking buy or sell
You laugh when others fold
You will not take the L
Out of your precious gold

You are on your death bed
You’ve got no one around
Only thought in your head
Is a penny a pound

You won’t give a nickel
Your life’s not worth a dime
You are in a pickle
For your now out of time

You can see Father Death
Because you sold your soul
As you take your last breath
You can see a black hole

You are going to Hell
Where the fire’s ice cold
If you just took the L
Out of your precious gold

You would have found God

Sacred Vow of Friendship

I, the undersigned
Do solemnly declare
By your side as a friend
I'll be forever there
I will be a comrade
Companion and a pal
I'll be a supporter
Of my favorite gal

I, the undersigned
Do hereby guarantee
Never in my lifetime
Will you be hurt by me
I will not make you cry
Unless they're tears of joy
I'll give you a friendship
You always will enjoy

I, the undersigned
Do openly declare
It is to Lord Jesus
I solemnly do swear
To be an awesome friend
Friend you can rely on
To be a strong shoulder
You can always cry on

I, the undersigned
Hereby promise once more
If and when you need me
I'll be right at your door
When I come a knocking
I'll be sweet as candy
I will always be there
For my good friend Sandy

I, the undersigned
Do promise I'll be there
Sitting right by your side
When you are in despair
I will be there later
Just like I am here now
Forever your best friend
This is my Sacred Vow

Just for Auld Lang Syne

Just for Auld Lang Syne
I send out this rhyme
In honor of Robert Burns
With a pen in hand
Poet from Scotland
Showed us how each year can turn

Yesterday’s mistakes
A year of bad breaks
Don’t have to be repeated
It’s a brand new year
There’s nothing to fear
We have not been defeated

Just for Auld Lang Syne
I send out this rhyme
Right at the stroke of midnight
To family and friends
The message it sends
Everything will be all right

Let the truth be told
It’s out with the old
It is now in with the new
It’s a brand new year
There’s nothing to fear
For the good Lord does love you

Just for Auld Lang Syne
I send out this rhyme
To all poets with a pen
We must remember
Banded together
We can all survive, “Amen”.

On our beloved site
Each poem we write
Can save others from despair
Just for Auld Lang Syne
I send out this rhyme
Please have a Happy New Year

My One True Love

You are my one true love
My all time favorite girl
A gift from God above
A blessing in my world

The answer to my prayers
Angelic song to sing
Like a breath of fresh air
The beauty of the spring

You are my life’s center
A never ending friend
Teacher and a mentor
There till the very end

A comfort in my life
Since the days of my youth
When pain cut like a knife
You’ve helped me face the truth

You are like my conscience
From which I cannot hide
Upfront and no nonsense
Guardian of my pride

Telling me it's absurd
To live a life of lies
Spreading God’s Holy Word
Helped open my blind eyes

You are my inner soul
Archangel of my heart
Emotional control
You've got down to an art

When my heart is breaking
Longing to beat no more
There is no mistaking
You are its only cure

You are my Guiding Light
A soft and soothing voice
Like bright stars in the night
You make my heart rejoice

When you are in my hand
I cannot let you go
Forever I'm your man
Poetry you must know....

You are my one true love!!!

You Make My Heart Go Pitter-Patter

You make my heart go pitter-patter
Like a gentle rain inside my chest
This is not a trivial matter
For inside my heart there's a love test

You make me realize you are unique
You're exclusive and one of a kind
Your beauty I could never critique
 Your gorgeousness is Heaven's design

You make my eyes pop out of my head
Whenever I am looking at you
Like for a rose in a flowerbed
You are blooming and so beautiful

You make me feel like I am a youth
A teenager knocking on your door
A blushing fool that can't hide the truth
From the woman I truly adore

You make my blood rise out of control
With your heartfelt and tender embrace
You light a fire deep in my soul
With your soft kisses upon my face

You make me think on a pedestal
Love is served on a silver platter
Like the spring and a gentle rainfall
You make my heart go pitter-patter

The Way to The Truth is The Light

Into the tunnel of darkness
I accidently slipped and fell
Reality was the harshness
Of eternity spent in Hell

With dark clouds and overcast skies
No full moon or stars shining bright
Honestly thought my blinded eyes
Had no chance of seeing The Light

Trapped in the tunnel of darkness
I could feel my impending doom
Reality was the harshness
Of forever living in gloom

With nothing to grab a hold of
Bewildered and so full of fright
As my blind eyes looked up above
I saw not a glimpse of The Light

Lost in the tunnel of darkness
I aimlessly wandered around
Reality was the harshness
Of my scraped knees on the cold ground

With nothing but the thought of prayer
Started praying with all my might
“Please Lord Jesus, if you are there
Allow my eyes to see The Light.”

Still in the tunnel of darkness
I now had a flicker of hope
Reality was His Greatness
Would allow this sinner to cope

With my spirit coming alive
My blackened soul now burning bright
Felt in my heart I would survive
If my eyes envisioned The Light

Freed from the tunnel of darkness
I am humbled it was God's Will
Reality....His Graciousness
Was a bona fide miracle

Yellow moon just started to shine
A million stars lit up the night
As Jesus showed these eyes of mine
The Way to The Truth is The Light

The Lord’s Masterpiece

We can praise the Lord with a melody
Spread the Holy Word through our poetry
Write across the sky with a fountain pen
“Son of the Most High, you are our best friend

Touch on the Scriptures and each miracle
Paint pretty pictures and be lyrical
Fly with the White Dove and feel Heaven’s peace
Hope Paradise loves The Lord’s Masterpiece

We can paint classic murals on each heart
Show the Lord’s magic through poetic art
Color darkened souls to show they’re not lost
Display the sorrow of Christ on the Cross

Our poems are blessed with God given thought
Paintings are priceless and cannot be bought
In order to pray and have inner peace
We must give away The Lord’s Masterpiece

Fruits of our labor have no cash reward
Must love thy neighbor and praise the good Lord
As His Disciples the picture we paint
Others can’t stifle but may try to taint

If it’s rejected by souls void of love
It’s then inspected by Jesus above
If He is enthralled and feels inner peace
The painting is called The Lord’s Masterpiece

Gentle is Your Love

Wild is the wind that blows
On a cold winter's night
Heavy the snow that shows
Wonderland made of white

Threatening are the clouds
Up in the sky above
But warm are your kisses
And gentle is your love

Violent is the rain
Falling down from the sky
Just drenching everyone
Who happens to walk by

Ferocious is the storm
Falling from clouds above
But sweet are your kisses
And gentle is your love

Scary the hurricane
 We get one summer day
Just blowing people's minds
And their dreams far away

Frightful are tornadoes
When they twirl from above
But warm are your kisses
And gentle is your love

(So I am not afraid)

Drowning in Your Eyes

Elegant and graceful
Distinguished and refined
Ladylike and tasteful
A woman so divine
Shy and sentimental
Courageous, strong and bold
 Manner soft and gentle
You're worth your weight in gold

Charming and delightful
Stunning and beautiful
Splendid and insightful
Lovely and dutiful
God's truth and honesty
Never no alibis
Reason why you can see
I'm drowning in your eyes

Authentic, true and real
Excellent, great and fine
Fervor, zesty and zeal
Religious and divine
Suitable and proper
Unique, righteous and pure
Bona fide eye stopper
Gorgeous and so much more

A thousand stars above
A ray of bright sunshine
 Epitome of love
Beauty by God's design
The sweetest melody
A thousand lullabies
Reason why you can see
I'm drowning in your eyes

Shining Light

Shining light, wondrous sight
My beating heart can’t stop
When my eyes see you rise
Above the mountaintop

Blooming morn, break of dawn
Breathtaking is the view
Golden rays, God be praised
For the beauty of you

Rising sun, day’s begun
Allow the dark to part
Bless my soul, set aglow
A fire in my heart

Burning star, from afar
Reveal to me God’s grace
Gentle streams, warm sunbeams
Radiate on my face

Setting sun, wondrous one
Heavenly ball of fire
Filled with charm, soothing calm
I’m star struck with desire

Giving praise, eyes ablaze
A view I’ll not forget
Beauty of the Lord’s love
Is found in His sunset

Burning heart, divine art
Peace and serenity
Yellow moon sings a tune
God’s lullaby to me

Drifting off, music soft
Shining light I’m yawning
Sins confessed, soul be blessed
See you in the morning

Beauty of the Lord

I wake in the morn
Get down on my knees
As my prayers go on
My soul feels at ease
Knowing I am bound
To help spread the word
I will show the town
Beauty of the Lord

With the Lord I’ll paint
Mural on each heart
Picture perfect saint
Will display my art
Inside every soul
I’ll add a high gloss
Then paint a rainbow
Of Christ on the Cross

As the Lord’s artist
Being Christian taught
Paintings I harvest
They cannot be bought
Each and every day
To have inner peace
I must give away
The Lord’s Masterpiece

Like any neighbor
I paint for the Lord
Fruits of my labor
Have no cash reward
As a disciple
Picture that I paint
Others can’t stifle
But may try to taint

If it’s rejected
By souls void of love
It’s then inspected
By the Lord above
If the work of art
Helped to spread the word
Mural in my heart
Beauty of the Lord

The White Dove

Long time ago with hearts aglow
Couple I know were given
The gift of love by the White Dove
Jesus above in Heaven

Hearts set abuzz simply because
Master plan was in motion
As they slow danced, kissed and romanced
White Dove enhanced the notion

On bended knee, man said shyly
“Girl marry me, I love you.”
Big, diamond ring, beauty of spring
The song she sings is “I do”.

Wedding granted, love’s enchanted
Seed is planted in marriage
As flowers bloom, true love does loom
I go from womb to carriage

Properly raised, I am amazed
God’s name is praised in glory
From Jesus boy until the Croix
Love and enjoy the story

As a grown man I understand
The master plan of sweet love
Beauty galore, forevermore
Angel wings soar with White Dove

Ain't I the Lucky One

Prettier than a rainbow
Soothing as a gentle stream
Enchanting like the moon glow
Heavenly and star light dream
Warmer than April showers
Walking in puddles is fun
Blossoming like May flowers
Oh, ain't I the lucky one?

Walking along the seashore
You're the sand beneath our feet
Ocean with a mighty roar,
A wet kiss so soft and sweet
Like a diamond rare and old
You're as precious as they come
You are worth your weight in gold
Oh, ain't I the lucky one?

Sinatra and "Summer Winds"
An "encore" followed by cheers
Like a thousand violins
Song is music to my ears
You’re "My Beautiful Balloon"
The Beatle's "Here Comes the Sun"
You can "Fly Me To the Moon"
Oh, ain't I the lucky one?

Like poetry in motion
You’re well versed and you are rhyme
An ode filled with emotion
A sonnet well worth the time
You are the girl I write for
When the final verse is done
My lover and paramour
Oh, ain't I the lucky one?

World's Most Lovable Girl

Atmosphere was divine
Conversation valid
Lobster tails tasted fine
Song was a love ballad.

Candlelight added spark
Wine made the spark go on
 Dinner has left its mark
 For love still lingers on

Restaurant has no guests
There's only you and me
Love Gods say it is best
If we drive to the sea

 Hands hold each other tight
 Enchanting is the world
 I call you with delight
World's most lovable girl

Ocean waves coming in
Sand softer than can be
Gentle is the North wind
Daring is the blue sea

Bright stars spell out your name
 Full moon spells out romance
 Flirtatious is our game
 Engaging is our dance

Arms wrapped around you tight
 Sweet smelling your perfume
 Charm rules the entire night
Love sweet and in full bloom

Kisses are soft and wet
Hugs best in the whole world
Lucky the day I met
 World's most lovable girl

The Happiest Day of My Life

The happiest day of my life
Was when I first laid eyes on you
For you were like a gift from God
An Angel sweet and beautiful.

Deep inside my tender heart
Actually felt your halo shine
I quickly knelt and prayed to God
And I asked Him to make you mine

The happiest day of my life
Was the day when I first kissed you
For I had never felt a kiss
So tender, soft and beautiful

But when I felt your gentle lips
I could have sworn I owned the world
Right then and there I knew for sure
You would forever be my girl

The happiest day of my life
I guess it has to be right now
For here I stand in front of God
Ready to make a Solemn Vow.

A vow to have you as my wife
And to love you with all me heart
To honor you and cherish you
And say, "Until death do we part."

The happiest day of my life
Has to be on some future day
About fifty years down the road
Upon the death bed that I lay

For when God calls me on that day
If I still have you as my wife
I'll die on the happiest day
The happiest day of my life

The Living Years

Last night I heard a song
Was called "The Living Years"
As I was listening
My eyes filled up with tears
 For the song was about
A young and burly lad
Who never took the time
To tell his dear old dad

Just how much he loved him
How much his love had meant
How much he was obliged
For all the time he spent
Taking him to ball games
Teaching him right from wrong
Giving him the courage
To stand up and be strong

When the song was finished
I thought about how much
I have never thanked you Ma
For your sweet, gentle touch
For the special moments,
Which filled my heart with joy.
Or for the times you said,
"I'm proud you are my boy."

Or for the many times,
You saved me from despair.
Or for the memories,
We will forever share.
I've never thanked you,
For being there for me.
For raising your boy up,
With pride and dignity.

Now that I am older,
I think the time has come.
To just say, “I love you“,
Thank you for all you've done.
And, Ma, I know by now,
Your eyes are filled with tears.
But I had to say this,
While in The Living Years.

~Poem based on song from Mike and the Mechanics

What Would Jesus Do

You’re driving down the highway
You are in the twilight zone
After working hard all day
You can’t wait till you get home

Wife knows you’ll be there soon
Kids can’t wait to see your face
Whistling a happy tune
Heart is feeling the Lord’s grace

Yonder up the road a piece
Your eyes can see from afar
Other drivers speeds increase
To pass a broken down car

You notice with her mother
A girl around five or six
You notice like the others
There’s a problem she can’t fix

Although you would like to pass
The Christian inside of you
Has a question he must ask
Tell me, what would Jesus do?

Noticing they’re all alone
You pull over right away
Giving Mom your telephone
“Call the cops and Triple A.”

Though you’re in your best suit
And not in layman’s attire
You consider the point moot
And proceed to change her tire

Grease and dirt are on your hands
Concrete is hurting your knees
Knowing you’re a Godly man
Helps to put your pain at ease

Up until the cops arrive
You stay by this family’s side
Just as you’re about to drive
Lady’s smile brings you pride

Saying, “Sir for your good deed
I don’t know how to thank you
You tell her “there is no need
I did what Jesus would do.”

Satan Couldn’t Steal My Thunder

I was riding cloud number nine
Basking in the warmth of sunlight
Skies were Heavenly and Divine
Paradise was an awesome sight

I was relaxing on the moon
Dancing with a Heavenly star
Angels were singing a sweet tune
Voices traveling near and far

I was floating on God’s thin air
Enjoying the sweet melody
Heavenly music in my ear
Was sung in perfect harmony

I was shocked and in total awe
Living in this world of wonder
Only thing I was praying for
Satan wouldn’t steal my thunder

I was riding an all time high
My heart was burning with God’s love
Enchanting was the Lord’s blue sky
Glorious was Heaven above

I was perched upon a rainbow
Enjoying a picturesque view
The moon and stars were all aglow
Mountaintops were so beautiful

I was watching a work of art
A sculpture of God’s masterpiece
With serenity in my heart
My sinful soul was now at peace

I was living in Paradise
In an awesome world of wonder
Because of the Lord’s sacrifice
Satan couldn’t steal my thunder

The Son of God

Jesus Christ is the Son of God
The road He traveled was rough
For people scourged and mocked Him
And as if this wasn't enough

They placed a reed inside His Hand
Spat upon His Holy Face
They made Him carry His own Cross
To The Crucifixion Place

On His head they placed a crown of thorns
Joked, "Hail to the King of the Jews."
And as they gambled for His clothes
They listened not to His Good News

For you see their hearts were hardened
Sinful souls were empty and bare
That's why they nailed Him to the Cross
As Mother Mary stood right there

But though these people tortured Him
And caused Him great suffering too
He said, "Father, please forgive them
Because they know not what they do."

As Jesus hung upon the Cross
God only knows how much He hurt
But never once did He complain
He just simply said, "I thirst."

He then cried out, "My God, My God
Why have you forsaken me?"
Knowing soon he would breathe His last
Give up His Spirit willingly

His purpose was to conquer death
For the sinners and ill fated
And when His mission was complete
He said, "It is consummated."

As Jesus died the whole earth shook
Bodies of Holy Saints were raised
When the sanctuary broke in two
The sinful people were amazed

The Centurion filled with fear
For he knew Jesus was no fraud
His voice was trembling as he said
"He truly was the Son of God."

We Are All But Sinners

Life is like a criminal
Its whereabouts are unknown
It can surface in a prison
Or invade you in your home

And love is an attachment
But it's just a broken part
Where all our false emotions
Come straight from a lying heart

For we're preachers in the day
But adulterers at night
We're blood sucking lip servers
Just a bunch of parasites

We're nothing but impostors
Masqueraders of the soul
Now can we stop this pretense
And let the Lord's truth be told?

For we are all but sinners
 We're hypocrites just the same
And like a human finger
We all point to place the blame

We're quick to judge our brother
We chastise our fellow man
And in our human weakness
We all fail to understand

That this life is just a cage
It's a crib in which we cry
It is just an empty stage
Where we live before we die

But death it is so final
It's the point of no return
Now are we bound for Heaven?
Or will our souls have to burn?

For we are all but sinners
Who pretend we're doing well
 But without a moments notice
We could be burning in Hell

When You Wake Up Dead

You're living your life
So haphazardly
Pain, anguish and strife
Complete misery

Your self-loathing act
Is sure getting old
Can't face the hard facts
Out there in the cold

You're living each day
Head stuck in the sand
With skies dark and gray
Bloodstains on your hand

You're wasting your time
On booze, drugs and broads
Down to your last dime
You're hanging with frauds

You're living your life
Engaging in sin
A gun and a knife
Ensures you will win

You're walking the streets
As blind as can be
You know not you'll meet
A sad destiny

You're living each night
Head stuck in the clouds
To Satan's delight
You're making him proud

You can't understand
He's ruined your soul
He's tricking you man
You're out of control

You're living in sin
You're living a lie
But just like all men
You're going to die

You're going to frown
See you've been misled
For you're going down
When you wake up dead

Broken Windows

A broken window, a hole in the wall
A loss of control, a slip and a fall
A violent rage, a harsh word spoken
A girl in a cage, tender heart broken
Restraining Order, reasonable doubt
Broken recorder, a man that's let out
A real threat to kill, a whack in the head
Climb thru a window, a girl is found dead
A man being booked, a loss of a soul
A "no need to look" for broken windows

Please look at the windows
All the broken windows
And look at the holes in the wall
Please look at the bruises
On the girl he abuses
For Heaven’s sake hear her call

A family's cry, a torturing pain
A reason for why, an "I can't explain."
A sick husband's grudge, a girl's ignored plea,
A District Court Judge, "mistake he was free."
A hidden rap sheet, Public Defender
A tough case to beat, Repeat Offender
Restraining Order doesn't do much good
Man can just wander through her neighborhood.
A loss of a soul, this is insane
Can't fix a window till you have the PAIN

So look at the windows
All the broken windows
Look at all the holes in the wall
Just look at the bruises
On the girl he abuses
For Heaven’s sake hear her call

Frozen Tears

There's a child in the night
 Holding his mommy’s hand
Wild eyes are filled with fright
As they walk this frozen land

Hoping to find a place
To sleep which has some heat
The look upon their face
Suggests they didn't eat

There's a child who must roam
Watch mommy bum a buck
Cardboard box is his home
Of all the rotten luck

Come the morning sun light
It's frozen tears he'll cry
For in the passing night
Boy’s mommy had to die

There's a child in the dark
Cold wind upon his face
 He's walking through the park
He's looking for some place

Some place in the city
Where he can find a home
Crying shame and pity
He's out there all alone

There's a child in the lot
He's asking what he's done
We tell him there is not
A house for everyone

But come the morning light
It's frozen tears we'll cry
For in the passing night
Poor child had to die
